He also wrote for the Daily News (later the News Chronicle) and was its literary editor from 1912 to 1947. Robert Lynd settled in Hampstead, in Keats Grove next to John Keats' house. During writing, he used the pseudonym Y.Y. (Ys, or wise). Robert Lynd wrote for The Republic during its early days. Lynd's weekly essay, ran from 1913 to 1945 and was 'irreplaceable'.
Robert Lynd was a fluent Irish speaker and a member of the Gaelic League. He was a Sinn Féin activist and used the name Robiard Ó Flionn/Roibeard Ua Flionn.
