Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine and raised over there. He grew up in the house now known as the Wadsworth-Longfellow House. He attended university at the Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. For the last forty-five years of his life Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was one of the most beloved poets of his time.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow married Frances "Fanny" Appleton, the daughter of a wealthy Boston industrialist, Nathan Appleton in 1843. It is said that during his courtship days, he frequently walked her from Harvard to Boston, crossing the Boston Bridge. The bridge was subsequently demolished and rebuilt to be named as the Longfellow Bridge. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his wife Frances Appleton had six children. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow died on March 24, 1882. he suffered from peritonitis for five days before his death.
